A site I want to preserve
Should Singapore be complacent in our achievements?
What I think...my china buddy
My chingay 2016 reflections
The site that I want to preserve is my primary school, Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School. My school is over 100 years old and has a lot of heritage and culture. It was where I made many memorable memories. Another reason why I want to preserved this school is because almost my whole family came from this school: my Brother, my Sister and my Father as well. I manage to make many friends that will be there for me forever. The Teachers there were also very kind and fun. I managed to learn many things from this school. I learnt not only educational things but others things like shooting and various sports in school. I was also in the schools student council where I managed to widen my experience as a leader. In our different camps I also managed to learn many useful life skills. In conclusion, I want to preserve this school as it is something very important to me.
Singapore has indeed achieved many great things in this past 50 years. Many people doubted us but we persevered and succeeded. Some of these include our strong military, racial harmony and the peace and harmony between one another. These are indeed things for us to be proud of
If Singapore becomes complacent I'm afraid that we might end up becoming too proud of ourselves and might hinder our success. Hence, we should always do our best and continue to work hard for our achievements and what we want.
No matter how good we already are as a country, we should never be complacent and forget about our goals because nothing is ever perfect. We can only work towards becoming the best that we can as a country.
I think that there will be some communication problems between me and my China buddy because of the language barrier. Even though in Singapore we are all bilingual my Chinese still isn't very good due to the fact that my family doesn't speak Chinese. But despite this setback, I will try my very best to talk to my buddy.
I am excited to learn more things about China from my buddy. For example, things like the one child policy and how their school life is like. I am also excited to share our singapore culture with them. Although it might be awkward at first since we will be complete strangers, I hope to forge a bond with him/her. I also think that my China buddy might be super smart because I have the impression that people from that country are extremely hardworking and they always strive to their best in everything.
In primary school, I also had a buddy from Indonesia and up to now I still keep in contact with her. So I hope that my experience with my China buddy will be just as memorable.
3-2-1
3 thing I have learnt :
1. I found out that there
are a lot of negatives and benefits for these policies
2. I found out that
Singapore has also once instilled the 2-child policy.
3. The remaining child from
the one child policy has to work really hard to feed his family as there is no
one else to split his burdens with
2 perceptions I have
gained:
1. I think the one child
policy is not necessary because it causes way too many problems and negative
decisions and action.
2. I think that Singapore
should have never instilled such a policy we might have a higher birth rate
now.
1 question I have
1. Did any other country
use this policy?
Chingay 2016 marks the first year of
Singapore's next 50 years towards SG100 and hence, Chingay 2016 theme is "lights of legacy, brighter singapore", celebrating the legacy and wisdom of our
founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and other founding fathers based on the
core values advocated by them and pledging our support to live by it and move
forward together towards a Brighter future Singapore!
Before going to the parade on 27 january, we were shown videos about chingay
and were also given a short introduction about chingay and how it is prepared
as well as its background. This made me even more excited to go to chingay as
before this I have never been to any chingay. From this short talk, I developed
a good impression of chingay as I learnt how hard the volunteers work and
sacrifice to put up the great performance. Chingay 2016 was to bring people of
different background and races together to celebrate a single vibrant event.
When we reached the F1 pit building
(where it was held) I saw many different representatives from various schools.
The exhausted yet enthusiastic volunteers worked hard to warmly welcome
us. From the video shown in school I knew how much these volunteers had to
sacrifice in order to make chingay 2016 a success. They forged out time after
their busy work and school schedules to come and help and I must say that
this isn't something that many people are willing to do. They directed
us to our seats as well as passed goodie bags out to us. Seeing them
putting in so much effort really brightened my day even further. We were
seated way up high in the centre of the entire place as a result we
had a great birds eye view of the entire performance.
The parade was put by different people from different countries and races.
These performances all came together to
perform, walking as one and persevering as one. I could see many different
types of cultural performances. There were performances of different ethnic
groups put up for example: indian dance, chinese dance, malay dance, ballet and
even poll dancing. These performances introduces the different way
different cultures dance. It was an eye opener for me because as a dancer
myself, I managed to get a deeper understanding between these various
dance types. My personal favourite was the aerial stunt. This is because i
found it fascinating how these dancers can still perform so elegantly and
bravely when they are dangling high up in the air. I admired their bravery and
their stage presence which is important for a dancer.
Another performance which i really
enjoyed and favoured is of course the finale. Audiences waved their glow sticks
and clappers as the performances sang this years chingays theme song together.
The vibrant colours from the fireworks really beautified the place and really
enhanced the festive atmosphere. There were at least 8000 perforers and 25,000
audiences on that day and everyone contributed happily and excitedly the
sea of light. This showed how singaporeans can come together as one united
nation to show our true singapore spirit. I have really learnt many new
and inspiring things from this night. A night to truly treasure
and remember.
After this performance, I really wish
that Singapore will not change Chingay. I learnt that chingay holds a lot
of meaning and holds a lot of traditional culture. I think it will be very
pitiful and sad if Chingay's culture were to change.
Here are some pictures which i took during the
celebration:

Can money buy
happiness? Money can and cannot buy happiness. Some happiness such as
gadgets can be bought but other things such as friendships and relationship
cannot be bought. People have many wants but not everyone are willing to work
towards what they want.
Although being rich
does not necessarily mean that they feel happy, it doesn't mean that the poor
people feel unhappy. For instance, poorer people tend to be satisfied with
simple things in life and will feel more grateful.
Money cannot buy happiness but the sense of satisfaction with our lives will bring happiness.
My reflection on rv60
I think that the purpose of the rv60 celebrations is to help us commemorate river valley and our successes as a school. unfortunately, we face many issues with this celebration. For example, some students are not willing to stay back for such long hours for rv60 practises, personally I dont think that students should be forced into helping out for rv60 if they arent wiling to do so because if they eventally do help out with the celebrtion, it will just dampened the whole mood. It will be more meaningful if the students volunteer to help out instead.
Even though many people have complained about the practises i still think that the level of school pride the students in this school have is still quite high. Being typical Singaporeans, many students just like to complain for the sake of complaining in front of their peers. Deep down im quite sure that many students were actually looking forward to rv60. Many of my friends have told me about how excited they were for rv60.
Some consequences when students view negatively towards their own school is that it would spoil the schools ood name. For example, when the public hear students complaining about rv60 their impression of rvhs will change. I think that one way to prevent the spread of negativity is to reduce the amount of practises. As a student who was involved in the dance performance during rv60, I think that the number of days that we have to stay back is ridiculous. First of, by spending so much time on rv60, I find it hard for myself to finish all my homework on time after reaching home very late at night. Secondly, these trainings have caused me to feel extremely exhausted, resulting in myself not being able to pay full attention during lessons. Therefore, i think that reducing the number of rv60 training hours will help prevent student from spreading so much negativity.
Despite all this, I am proud to be a student of river valley high school. This is because through these past 60 years, rv has built a very strong good image. River valley is a school known for developing leaders of distinction for singapore.
Extra in the ordinary
To me this is an extraordinary picture because believe it or not this is the first proper batch photo that we took together after a year. Whenever I see this picture, I would be reminded about how hard we worked together as a batch. This picture was taken on rv60 after all the performance. This picture will probably be one of the most memorable pictures that I take in RV as this is the first performance that we did in RV. Furthermore, it was for rv60 (which made it even more memorable). I will forever remember the late night cca trainings and dinners spent together. Not forgetting, our first experience buying and using makeup. (The lady in the shop judged us soooo badly).
Even though many people complain about rv60. I was actually very willing to go for the trainings. I felt more and more excited to be part of this celebrarion as the day drew closer. Finally, all our hard work paid off as we managed to put up a spectacular performance.

Hi Angie! You spread the joyful vibes! I bet you always bring much laughter to the ones around you! Why do you say that you have lesser family interactions?

ReplyDeleteIt is true that money can't buy everything. While money can satisfy your "wants" . But it can't buy love , friendship , care and family
