GREENRIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Yay!!! I bet that many people will not know what and where this building is standing. This is my primary school , the best school EVERRRR! At least my friends know which primary school I came from including the enthusiastic Kevin which is my primary schoolmate.
Why should we keep this primary school? This then my real 2nd home, I spent half of my life time in the school and many events and celebrations happen there. This school contain many ,funny, sad, happy memories. The mere sight of the Olympia block would flood my mind with all the memories, the joy and the sad. The run up the 6-storey stairs, the Fortius-Olympia bridge - it's hard to describe, but those memories are real. If you were me, you would certainly also do not want this awesome building to be destroyed, and wish to be able to, 20 or 30 years down the road, walk around the marvellous school garden and relieve all these memories.(basically what kevin said)
Also, it is the matter of appreciating the past. This school taught me many values that can be applied in my future. The teacher and friends in the school got me to who I am today, set the foundation for me entering RV (both character and result-wise). I had supportive friends and caring teachers.
The three peaks in the background symbolises our motto: GRACIOUS, RESPONSIBLE AND PUBLIC-SPIRITED
The fourth peak in the foreground represents the wholesome Greenridgean who is ready and prepared to face the challenges ahead and the fifth peak in the centre represents the nurturing of a global citizen ready to serve the broader community and beyond.
The ridge as a whole symbolises the effect Greenridgeans will have on the community, by having the strength of character, integrity and role-modeling the values of exemplary citizenship.
See this is how awesome greenridge is so it is a must to keep this precious building.Should Singapore be complacent in her achievement
Singapore has been recognised as the best city
for living in Asia, taking 26th place in this category globally. However , it
would be only fair to point out that Singapore is among the most expensive
cities in the world due to its high real estate prices. Singapore
students receive a well education, adults received reasonable salaries and
elderly well taken care of.
Singapore
has a strong and stable currency.
Should Singapore be complacent?
Also countries like China economy is catching up very quickly, with enough man power and space, China can also be one of the most successful countries in the world.
Finally the strong and sturdy base that our late father Mr Lee Kuan Yew had built must not be torn down. We must make Mr Lee Kuan Yew proud by being united, regardless of race language or religion, to build a democratic society, base on justices and equality so as to achieve happiness prosperity, and progress for our nation. We must reach SG100!
Before I go to China
The school year in China typically runs from the beginning of September to mid-July. Summer vacation is generally spent in summer classes or studying for entrance exams. The average school day runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a two-hour lunch break. china students might have the time to go out to explore and interact with all kinds of things. the student spent most of their time studying and little time relaxing.
I think my buddy will be an introvert. It might be very difficult to communicate with them. Since China adopted the one child policy , my buddy might not have any siblings and they hardly talk to anyone. Threy might not want to talk to me as they are not sociable.
The one child policy
I just found out that The one child policy , a part of the family planning policy , was a population control policy of China which was introduced between 1978 and 1980[and began to be formally phased out in 2015. In 2007, 36% of China's population was subject to a strict one-child restriction.
An additional 53% were allowed to have a second child if the first child was a girl.
Next I found out that the Chinese government says that 400 million births were prevented. The populations decrease rapidly. Finally,76% of the Chinese population supported the policy.
The two perceptions I gained was see a single son having to earn enough money to feed the family. It is a heavy burden.
I can also see that the men have less women to marry due to the fact that the woman population is decreasing.
Does that really help the government when he start this programme?
CHINGAY REFLECTION
Have u ever wonder what is Chungay all about? It is the largest street performance and float parade in Asia. From the main parade site to the heartlands, this street extravaganza epitomises the dynamism of Singapore's vibrant and multicultural society.
The word Chingay is equivalent to the Mandarin zhuang yi (ε¦θΊ), which means "the art of costume and masquerade" in the Hokkien dialect.
The first former Chingay parade in Singapore was mooted by the then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew who was also the chairman of the People's Association (PA). Chingay, with all its noise and gaiety, would compensate for the ban on firecrackers, a customary New Year practice to drive away evil spirits.
For its first street parade on 4 February 1973, the PA teamed up with the Singapore National Pugilistic Federation for a grand show in the Year of the Ox, depicting aspects of Chinese culture – dragon and lion dances, martial arts and street opera.
So well received was the first Chingay Parade that the PA made it an annual festival. It celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2012.
Chingay took on a multicultural flavor from 1976.
Today, Chingay has become a uniquely Singaporean Lunar New Year tradition, held during the first weekend of the Lunar New Year. This yearly street parade is now a national festival, celebrated by Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians alike.
Indeed, for the scores of spectators, the Chingay Parade could well be a treasured glimpse into the different cultures of Singapore and the world. Here age, race, language and creed are no barriers. Here, we celebrate together as one.
2016 marks the first year of Singapore's next 50 and hence, Chingay 2016 is aptly themed,"Lights Of Legacy, Brighter Singapore"
Firecrackers,
however, was banned in Singapore in March 1972 after two unarmed policemen
were attacked on New Year's Eve as they attempted to prevent celebrants at
Upper Serangoon Road from letting off firecrackers without a permit. The permit
system, a precursor to the Dangerous Fireworks Act, was established after
Chinese New Year celebrations in 1970 caused six deaths, 68 injured victims and
at least S$400,000 in damages. A maximum of S$5,000 and/or imprisonment of up
to two years can be imposed for the possession or discharge of fireworks
under the Dangerous Fireworks Act. Today, the only sign of firecrackers during
Chinese New Year are as long streamers of dummy crackers serving as doorway
decorations. But when I first saw the firecracker during the performance , i
was simply amazed.
When i was young i had never have a chance to watch the Chingay parade , and i do not even know what is chingay all about. i use to make fun of Chingay and i will say it as 'ching gay'. When ever i watch the live broadcast on the television i will fing it boring and not cool . But when i first watched the Chingay National Education show at the F1 pit , i felt the true "Chingay spirit". the atmosphere was thrilling ,brightly decorated floats, active youths and adults performing and my excited classmates.
When the performace started , i saw many vibrant floats , dancing dragon , prancing lion , stilt walkers , wushu masters , performance of different races in their traditional costume and many, many more...
I think the purpose of chingay was to bring different people regaredless of race, language or religion, different people from all walks of life , to build a democratic society base on justice and equality ,so that we can achieve happiness , prosperity and progress for our nation. This Chingay can help to prevent future riots and instead make more friends
In the past, people celebrate Chingay during the Chinese new year. But now its is celebrated annually by different people not just because of Chines new year . I think the change happened just to solve the problem of the ban of firecracker. They replaced it with traditional chinese lion dancers , jugglers, stilt-walkers and flag bearers and international performance . A while later , Singaporeans become less superstitious about the need foe firecrackers to drive away the evil. they slowly accept the change and enjoy the modern floats and performance .
The organizers have successfully fulfilled this purpose. I can see that the audience smiling and cheering till the end of the performance and the performers diligently performing for the audience putting the up-most effort for them. the atmosphere was electrifying!!
THE ABOVE THREE PICTURES SHOWS HOW IS THE PERFORMANCE ON FRIDAY (19 FEB)
The "Chingay spirit" is showcased on the first day of Chingay. It was raining heavily on that night . But that night, the sight of the performance did not let the audience down, instead it it made them more united.the people still perform with their ponchos giving their up-most effort. Seeing this warm-up my heart , feeling proud to be Singaporean . Appreciating what the founding father had led Singapore this far, and we young Singaporeans will take over with pride.
The Chingay spirit will live on and Singapore will indeed be prosperous till SG100!!!!!!!!
Poverty vs happiness. Does rich means happiness?
I personally do not think that rich means happiness. A poor family can still be a happy family. A poor family will work harder in order to have a better life. If they enjoy being tough they will soon be tough. The poor family will lead a simpler life than the rich and will ease problems like cooking or the bills. This will actual give them simple joy. The poor can also be happy if the have a very filial children that will also make them happy.
The rich might not be happy because the will normally go for the branded brands or a high class meals. They will normally lead a luxurious life the will sometimes be very complicated and will make their life difficult. They also might have such filial children. Since they did not go through tough life they not survive when something unpleasant happens.
In Singapore , even though it is a well developed and prosperous country , the happy planet index is no so high. I think it is because when Singaporeans have high pays high income, they will always trend to want more and unsatisfied by the pay. People will always want more or have high standards of something. ζ们εΊθ―₯ηζζ们η°ε¨ζζ₯ζηδΈε,θδΈζ―θ΄ͺεΏθ¦ζ±ζ΄ι«ζ΄ε€。
Being rich or poor does not matter as long as you have a happy life , satisfied with what you have.
RV60
On the 16th of January 2016 , RV finally became 60 years old. I am performing on the field as a 24 festive drummer. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and i am also proud to be performing for the audience as this will be my first time performing for more than a thousand people. However it is very tiring to carry such big and heavy drum to the field. Also very difficult to be in syn while playing with 60 drummers and have to pace with each other so that the performance will be a successful one. After the performance i felt extremely exhausted and wanted to take a break . Moving the drums and give your best to the audience was quite a tiring and great experience for me . From that experience i get to know what is real teamwork and hardwork will always pay off . from the audience smile and applause they are happy and i am please with my performance too.
From the experience i learn to work hard in order to achieve something and have teamwork always help one another .
Unique RV
This picture was taken by my coach while the drummers including me were practicing for rv60 . This photo remind me of the practices we had before rv60. We were selected for this performance because we did in the drum test ,so we were being trained to perform for rv60 .We had fun drumming together, and there is always laughter and sometimes serious . We overcome hardships together by working together . We had to carry drums form the auditorium to the field and we did it ,even though the drums were huge and weight 15kg . We preserved together and carry all 60 drums to the field back and fro for the reahersals . Even though we sweat we felt contented when we carried all the drums to the field and auditorium. We also got scolded by the coach or the teacher in charge for the bad performance but we don't feel disappointed and we learn from our mistake . During the rv60 performance I felt honored to be able to drum with so many people and is also very difficult to synchronize together but we did it! At the end of the performance we had an enjoyable night .
